The most decision-relevant fact about a freelancer is the one every directory hides.
Portfolios are public. Availability is not. So the usual process is to fall in love with three people's work, contact them, find out two are booked until February, and hire the third by default. You did not choose the third person. A calendar you never looked at assigned them to you.
The roster is ordered by who can start soonest, and the rail down the margin draws the next fifty-two weeks for whichever cohort you are looking at. Filtering by discipline is a question about capacity, so the rail answers it.
Every listing shows a day rate before you contact anyone. A directory that hides the rate is a directory that wants to broker the conversation, and brokering is how a commission gets justified.
No paid listings, no featured placement, no commission on booked work. The sort order is capacity, and capacity cannot be bought — which is the only reason the sort order means anything.
